Product Details

The Marcel Breuer Folding Armchair (D4) was first presented to the public in 1927 at the Weissenhof Housing Exhibition, in a house designed by Walter Gropius. Soon after the exhibit Standard-Mobel, Lengyel & Company put the D4 Folding Chair into production. The D4 Folding Chair was in production until Thonet took over the manufacturing of Marcel Breuer furniture. The Breuer Folding Armchair captures the same essence that his famous Wassily chair embodies. Its geometric form brings simple elegance to a room, while his combination of tubular steel and canvas upholstery defines Bauhaus. Our version is the same as seen in the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. Made in Germany by Tecta. Licensed reproductions of Bauhaus Designs by Tecta are approved by the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin and carry the Signet "Original Bauhaus Modell" as designed by Oskar Schlemmer at The Bauhaus Weimar in 1922. Dimensions: H 27" x D 24 3/4" x W 30 3/4" Materials: Folding armchair in a nickel-plated tubular steel tube or stainless steel tube. Upholstered with fabric, leather, saddle leather, pony, or outdoor Bauhaus straps.
