Marcel Breuer F41 Couch on Wheels

As one of the fathers of Modernism, Marcel Breuer is widely considered to be the most important with regards to the development of the use of tubular steel in furniture. His early experiments at the Bauhaus School led to a wide range of his own tubular steel furniture, but his works also created a massive array of chair and table designs that continues to this day.

Many of his early tubular steel frame chairs are still in mass production, while vintage models of the Marcel Breuer’s chairs have become collector items. The F41 is a particularly interesting model as it combines Breuer’s use of cane, tubular steel, and the source of his early interest in tubular steel – the bicycle.

If you're hell on wheels, this couch on wheels might be for you. Movable by means of a fifth wheel and a chain, Breuer's F41 chaise is just the thing for the lord or lady of the manor or loft who's got places to go, slowly.

Marcel Breuer designed this F41 couch on wheels sometime between 1928 and 1930. This whimsical mobile chaise is clearly a must-have piece for a modern collector.
